A mother and her teenage daughter were rescued from the water at Illinois Beach State Park Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

At around 4:15 p.m., Lake County Sheriff and local fire departments responded to a report of a water emergency at the park, located at 1 Lake Front Dr., authorities said.

A mother and her 14-year-old daughter were having trouble swimming when bystanders came to their rescue, authorities said.

The woman, 30, was submerged for 5 minutes, Beach Park Fire Department said. The daughter inhaled some water but remained afloat.

Bystanders pulled the pair out of the water and performed CPR on the mother, Beach Park Fire Department said
