CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The Charlotte community mourned the loss of a North Carolina civil rights figure on Thursday, who passed away at the end of July.
Hundreds filled The Park Church on Thursday to pay their respects to James Ferguson II, who passed away on July 21 after battling COVID, pneumonia and other complications.
Ferguson was born in Ashville in 1942 and grew up in the segregated south. The 82-year-old had accomplished a lot in his life that had influence all over the world.
Greatness was a theme of the service and something that many people mentioned in their remarks about Ferguson.
His son Jay Ferguson said his father was a great man, but also so much more.
“For me, it describes the way he made you feel when you were with him,” Jay Ferguson said.
