BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- An inmate was injured after he was attacked by two others allegedly using an improvised weapon on Tuesday afternoon at Kern Valley State Prison.

The attack was reported around 1:58 p.m. when two inmates were striking another. Personnel responded and ordered them to get down.

The attack allegedly continued, according to officials with CDCR. Staff used two blast grenades to stop the attack.

The victim was then transported to an outside medical facility and he is reported in fair condition.

The two inmates involved were medically assessed at KVSP and rehoused, according to officials. One improvised weapon was found.
