SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - Med students from Spain have the chance to study with researchers at LSU Health Shreveport thanks to the Fundación Barrié Undergraduate Fellowship.

The collaboration is between LSUHS, Galician University in La Coruña and the nonprofit Fundación Barrié de la Maza.

The fellowship allows 1-3 students to participate in LSUHS’s Microbiology and Immunology Department’s summer research program.

The fellowship was started in 2021 by Dr. Monica Cartelle Gestal, a former LSUHS postdoctoral fellow whose studies were funded by Fundación Barrié. After her successful experience, she knew she wanted to create opportunities for more undergraduates.
