SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) - The city of Shreveport is continuing its efforts to fight against squatters in the historic Highland neighborhood.
Issues in the Highland neighborhood, such as squatters, vacant house fires, and other property concerns, have been a major topic of conversation this year. However, thanks to a new local law passed by the Caddo Parish Commission back in April, improvements are being made.
Melody Rosser, a homeowner in Highland, shares her ongoing concerns about the neighborhood.
"In this neighborhood, particularly, the age and the construction of the houses, combined with the proximity, and the lack of general maintenance for yard debris, there's a really big concern that fire is gonna spread," she says.
