WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A push to throw out the STAAR test failed during the regular session, but now a revised bill is on the table again.
Senate and House Bill 8 aims to give standardized testing a new look, throwing out the STAAR test and bringing in three separate exams in the beginning, middle and end of the school year, as well as guidelines for the Texas Education Agency.
The move to throw out the STAAR test and create a new one fell under House Bill 4, which failed during the regular session that ended in the beginning of June.
However, when the agenda for the special session was released, lawmakers saw that they had a second chance to make an official change.
The newer version gives a 48-hour turn-around for scores after the test is taken.
