LAKE LURE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- An iconic piece of Lake Lure will soon be no more, and becomes yet another victim of Hurricane Helene in one areas most affected by the historic storm.
The town announced Thursday that its Flowering Bridge will be taken down due to the significant damage it sustained last fall.
“After thorough assessments by two independent engineering firms, it was determined that the bridge is beyond repair and cannot be restored,” town officials wore in a Facebook post.
Deemed “heaven on Earth" by a Tennessee photographer, it drew thousands of visitors each year. Before Helene's flooding, it was once home to nearly 2,000 species of plants.
