SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- On days like today, the heat poses a potential risk to anyone spending time outside. But there are precautions you can take to make sure you stay safe.
"It's really important when the weather's hot to make sure that you stay well hydrated," said Sanford emergency room physician Lisa Forbeck. "You want to drink plenty of water. You want to avoid being outside during peak hours, such as 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when the weather's the hottest."
For some, it is unavoidable to be out in the sun. At O'Gorman High School, students in marching band are outside from early in the morning until evening. Directors are making sure students know how to keep themselves cool to avoid overheating.
