SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) -- People will gather Saturday at the Battleship Memorial in Sioux Falls to honor the sailors who served on board the USS South Dakota, as well as commemorate the upcoming 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
A 99-year-old man from California, who served as a radar operator on the USS South Dakota, will once again be attending the Day of Honor ceremony.
He's sharing his memories of being a witness to history.
Leon Gee's thoughts are with his fellow USS South Dakota crew members as he tours the Battleship Memorial.
"I think most of them, or all of them, have passed away by now," Gee said.
