Police arrested a driver accused of hitting a 16-year-old cyclist on her way to school and fleeing the scene Wednesday, Aug. 6 in Fontana.

Officers responded around 7:30 a.m. to Cherry and Walnut avenues, where a white Ford Ranger hit the cyclist who was on her way to Etiwanda High School, according to Officer Daniel Romero with the Fontana Police Department.

The truck drove away, leaving the teen critically injured in the street. Paramedics took the girl to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition as of Thursday.

Police later found the pickup truck in Montclair and arrested the 29-year-old driver.
