BENNINGTON — The St. Francis of Assisi Society for Animals has temporarily paused its work. Its foster homes are at full capacity and its resources are depleted.
The 501(c) 3 registered non profit has the mission to assist in rescue, spay/neuter and fostering of adoptable cats and kittens in the greater Bennington area.
"We just had to pause on intake from the public, which we hate to do, because there's not a lot of resources. But we took in more (cats) than ever this spring," said group president Jackie Berry on Tuesday. "Pregnant cats that had five to six kittens each and then several litters that we found, plus other strays. And doing our normal TNR just depleted our funding and all of our volunteers are maxed out."
