BENNINGTON – Phil Holland has published a significantly expanded second edition of his 2016 book, “A Guide to The Battle of Bennington & the Bennington Monument,” but he doubts he’s finished writing about the August 1777 victory that, well, put the town on the world map.

“There is a lot about the battle that has never been published,” Holland said this week, “because there is no book, no comprehensive academic treatment of the battle. It is a chapter or two in books on the Saratoga campaign.”

The Saratoga, New York, area is where the main British army under Gen. John Burgoyne was halted in its march south and forced to surrender with about 6,000 troops that October – in one of the key battles of the Revolutionary War.
