SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

The Sacramento region is heating up this week, with high temperatures forecasted to climb past 100 degrees for the next several days.

From finding a place to cool off in the water to keeping an eye out for symptoms of heat-related illness, there's a lot to think about ahead of the heat wave.

Dr. Dean Blumberg of U.C. Davis Health cautioned families Thursday that the stretch of triple-digit temperatures this weekend may catch some off guard, given it has been weeks since the last 100-degree day in Sacramento.

“Pay attention to the signs and not try to power through,” he said. “For children, it's important to remember that they're three to five times increased risk for heat injury because they have a larger body surface area and they don't sweat as well as adults,
