NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — New Bedford residents came out in full force Thursday evening to express their concerns with a proposed waste transfer facility.

The New Bedford Board of Health has been considering whether to approve the proposed facility, which would process up to 1,500 tons of solid waste each day within the city's industrial park.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection green-lighted the project back in July.

But not everyone is on board with the idea.

New Bedford residents took turns urging the board not to sign off on the proposal.

The proposed facility would be located on Duchaine Boulevard, which is roughly 600 feet away from the nearest neighborhood.
