A central Alabama workforce organization is ceasing operations.

The board of Central Six AlabamaWorks!, in operation since 2014, has decided to conclude the group’s operation, since the organization will no longer receive state funding after Sept. 30.

The board will stay in place through year’s end.

Serving Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker counties, Central Six worked with companies to supply workers.

According to the organization, it engaged over 135 employers and connected more than 1,000 individuals with workforce development opportunities just last year, using $500,000 in national grants.

The funding change is in line with last year’s Alabama Workforce Transformation Act in the Legislature, which created the Department of Workforce and reprioritizes fund
