HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11)-- It's not all fun and games at a Chess Tournament in Harlem.

It's about building up better community relations between pre-teens, teenagers, and the NYPD.

Nearly 40 children and two dozen police officers attended the annual event, organized by Jackie Rowe-Adams.

She is the founder of Harlem Mothers and Fathers S.A.V.E.

Rowe-Adams tells PIX 11 News, "I lost 2 kids to gun violence, I knew I couldn't bring them back, so I could help another mother, another family from feeling the pain and hurt, saving lives. This is not all about the police arresting, it is about police working with community and letting the kids know we care."
