SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Someone walking or running along the bike trail through the Beadle Greenway in central Sioux Falls wouldn't notice it. But leaving the path and taking a few steps into the trees revealed an encampment Thursday afternoon right by the Big Sioux River; per the city, several have existed in the area recently.
It's the type of dwelling that a proposed ordinance would prohibit. The Sioux Falls City Council is considering one that would ban encampments or tents in public places: a decision that could have a direct impact on people experiencing homelessness. Michelle Treasure, homelessness services coordinator with the City of Sioux Falls, says the goal is not to dismantle where people are attempting to live.
"We're not going to come in here and just destroy all your t
