SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - It often seems as though affordable housing is hard to come by, especially for first-time homebuyers. However, there are programs working to create more houses and give families some help buying them.

There is a three-bedroom, one-bath house on North Nesmith Avenue in Sioux Falls that's move-in ready for any family looking for an affordable home. However, if you had seen it a year ago, your impression of it likely would've been much different.

"We had things when we took it over that a lot of them were in tough shape, windows were in tough shape," Lynne Keller Forbes, President/CEO of South Eastern Development Foundation, said. "Just kind of what you would expect of some rentals that you might see that people know they're not going to keep long-term."
