WASHINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Washington is kicking off bicentennial celebrations by bringing in artists to paint a new mural on the railroad bridge across Peoria Street.

Township officials say the bridge was an eyesore for a long time, and it was a long logistical process to get it painted.

“No one really knows the last time the bridge was painted; some say it was over 50 years ago. That was the sesquicentennial, so it’s perfect to celebrate the bicentennial. Many people drive through here every day, and they’ll be able to look up and just remember the celebration,” said Jewel Ward, Washington Township Supervisor.

To get the mural started, the Washington Historical Society teamed up with the Washington Township Government.
