EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — A police officer was shot in the leg while responding to an incident late Thursday night, reports say.

Cleveland.com/The Plain Dealer news partner WKYC Channel 3 reports that East Cleveland Mayor Lateek Shabazz confirmed the officer was wounded in the calf. The officer was taken to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and is expected to be OK, Shabazz tells WKYC.

It’s unclear what incident officers were responding to. No arrests have been reported but police are in the area searching for a suspect, WKYC reports.

The shooting occurred just after 11 p.m. on the 1900 block of North Taylor Road, WOIO Channel 19 reports .
