A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing a Chaves County Sheriff's deputy on a stolen moped.

Nathan Madrid, 47, of Roswell, was detained Sunday at about 12:55 a.m., after the moped he was riding crashed in an alleyway between West Summit Street and West Mathews Street. He was eventually apprehended when he attempted to flee from the deputy on foot, according to the criminal complaint filed in Chaves County Magistrate Court.

The pursuit began after a deputy observed a moped run through a stop sign at the intersection of East Church Street and South Main Street. According to the complaint, the moped turned right onto East Ballard Street and continued west as the deputy's patrol unit followed behind with its emergency lights activated.
