Amtrak's "NextGen Acela" trains are scheduled to debut from Boston to Washington, D.C. on Aug. 28, including Wilmington.
The corporation is starting NextGen service with five trains with plans for a total of 28.
Amtrak said the new train is part of the corporation’s broader fleet modernization plan.
Amtrak leaders are calling the passenger railroad corporation’s latest train “a new era of high-speed rail.”
Starting on Aug. 28, customers can travel between Boston and Washington, D.C., including Wilmington, on the “ NextGen Acela ,” capable of speeds of 160 mph.
The NextGen Acela will “launch a new standard for American train travel,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris in a press release.
