ASHEVILLE - An Arden man previously wanted on assault charges was found by a hiker on the Blue Ridge Parkway suffering a gunshot wound to the head, officials said Aug. 7.

The hiker found Nicholas DJ Ivers, 27, on the parkway around 6 p.m. July 30, according to a news release from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office.

Matt Marshall, sheriff's office spokesperson, said Ivers was found on the parkway south of Hendersonville Road, but said he was unable to provide more information due to the pending investigation.

Law enforcement had been searching for Ivers after a suspected breaking and entering at a home on Appian Way in Arden around 12:55 p.m. on July 29, which resulted in a heavy police response with crisis negotiators and special response teams at the scene.
