TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— A non-tropical area of low pressure is expected to form in a few days, the National Hurricane Center said.

The area of low pressure off the Southeastern United States is expected to form in a day or so, a few hundred miles offshore of North Carolina.

Tropical or subtropical development is possible as the system moves northeastward over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.

According to the NHC, by early next week, the system is expected to encounter colder waters and an area of strong upper-level winds, which will likely end the chances for development.

The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 10 percent, while the chance of formation in the next seven days is 20 percent.
