Mayor Andrea Horwath says she plans to organize a “community safety summit” to address growing resident concerns about violent crime and hate in Hamilton.

But exactly what the forum will look like remains unclear, with the mayor’s office noting Wednesday the initiative “is still in the very early stages of planning.” A spokesperson said it’s expected to be held before the end of the year.

Horwath referenced the hoped-for summit at a council meeting Wednesday as councillors discussed two related motions — one about funding for the city’s community safety and well-being plan and the other about what the city can do to tackle hate crimes and support affected residents.
