DETROIT - The best chance for showers and thunderstorms today is not going to be in metro Detroit, but instead in the northern Thumb area and parts of Mid Michigan. What Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and outlying counties will see are the effects of a Heat Dome that’s building over the Great Lakes.
Hot and muggy weather will be here to stay for the weekend, with the “feels like” heat index well into the 90s starting today and lasting through Monday, the National Weather Service said.

A strengthening heat dome is building across Michigan, bringing increasingly warm and humid conditions to the region. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s today, with heat indices reaching the low 90s as dewpoints hover around 70 d
