BEDFORD, Va. (WDBJ) - Communities can help save lives and support the National D-Day Memorial by giving blood on Saturday. The Blood Connection ’s Bloodmobile is returning to the Memorial from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
The Blood Connection will donate $10 for each blood donation collected to the Memorial.
National D-Day Memorial Director of Education, John Long, said there’s a special connection between Blood donations and D-Day. During World War II, blood donations were vitally important. Medics landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, with bottles of blood and plasma.
Although less advanced than what we see today, soldiers and civilians alike were asked to give blood for wounded men. Long said donors help save lives today, just as they did on D-Day.
