FORT SMITH -- Fort Smith's downtown parking meters, unused since November 2023, are coming out of the ground.
The city Board of Directors voted 6-0 to repeal the regulation of parking meters downtown and to provide for their removal during a regular meeting Tuesday. Director Christina Catsavis was absent.
Josh Buchfink, the city's public relations manager, said city staff were already removing the meters by Thursday, adding the removal will not result in any additional costs for the city.
The resolution approved Tuesday includes some restrictions for courthouse parking: Street parking adjacent to the Sebastian County Courthouse at 35 S. Sixth St. shall be for county business only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and only for 30 minutes at a time. Sebastian County will be
