An 80-year-old Sherwood man was killed in a plane crash Thursday morning in Woodruff County that also injured his grandson, the county sheriff said.

Authorities responded around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to the crash site in a corn field between Augusta and McCrory, where they located the pilot, Danny Looper, 80, and passenger Hunter Standridge, 30, Sheriff Phillip Reynolds said. Looper died of his injuries, and Standridge was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The Cessna T182T single-engine propeller plane was manufactured in 2001 and owned by Dans Land LLC of Campview Drive in North Little Rock, according to a preliminary crash report from the Federal Aviation Administration.
