ANDERSON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Anderson School District One reports a school board member has resigned after being charged with child sex crimes.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said 48-year-old Gregg Hayden was charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, third-degree and attempted criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second degree after an interaction that took place on July 30.

According to officials, Hayden picked up a child to play basketball when nearby drivers witnessed signs of sexual abuse happening in his truck. He is not related to the child but knew them through a church mentorship program.

Deputies said Hayden was an Anderson One school board member and retired Anderson County deputy.
