A robust ridge of high pressure developing over the eastern Pacific Ocean will bring a sharp warming trend into the region that should peak on Sunday and Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

But before that happens, Portland is looking at a pleasant end to the work week with mostly sunny skies Friday and a high temperature of about 82 degrees.

Saturday also looks good with mostly sunny skies after a few light morning clouds, and highs warming to near 86 degrees, which is about average during early August.

The heat kicks in on Sunday as the ridge of high pressure over the Pacific strengthens. Portland has a 60-80% chance of reaching 95 degrees, and those chances increase to 80-95% as you head further south into the Willamette Valley.
