DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — On the first Wednesday of March each year, the madness begins at 9 a.m.

That’s when about 500 golfers jump online and register for the Pine to Palm, which doesn’t even take place until August.

“There’s a lot of people sitting at the computer ready to go,” said tournament chairman Vern Schnathorst. “For a lot of people, the tournament is so important to them that they want to make sure they get in.”

In about three hours, most of the divisions are filled.

“It causes some stress for some people, but it’s a nice way to do signup since you do it all at once,” Schnathorst said.
