Three of the Great Lakes are below their long-term averages through July, according to recent data, but the lower lakes, Erie and Ontario, are showing higher water levels than average.

" Despite enhanced precipitation, monthly mean water levels remained below their long-term average levels on Lakes Superior and Michigan-Huron," said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Facebook on Aug. 6. "Lakes St. Clair, Erie, and Ontario water levels were above their long-term average July levels."

Lake Superior's forecast water level for Aug. 1 was 602 feet, the Corps said. Lake Michigan-Huron was 579.04, Lake Erie was 572.25 and Lake Ontario was 246 feet.

On Aug. 1, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released its Weekly Great Lakes Water Level Update showing water level forecasts.
