OTTAWA COUNTY, MI - Jenison Public Schools is considering several remediation plans after “moisture-related growths” were found in parts of Bursley Elementary.
A communication obtained by MLive/The Grand Rapids Press detailed how the district’s facilities team discovered elevated moisture levels in part of the elementary building, located at 195 Port Sheldon St., during routine summer cleaning and maintenance.
The Ottawa County elementary enrolled 404 students in kindergarten through 6th-grade during the 2024-25 school year, according to state data.
After partnering with a third-party environmental consultant for testing, several classroom areas were confirmed to have Aspergillus-Penicillium, described in the communication as a “common indoor allergen.”
