CINCINNATI —

A strong solar storm headed toward Earth could light up the skies this weekend.

According to the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, a coronal mass ejection could result in a geomagnetic storm, meaning auroras being visible over skies in some parts of the country. Advertisement

The impacts will be minor, meaning the auroras may only be visible over some northern and upper midwest states, from New York to Idaho.

So while it's not likely those in Ohio will get treated to a show in the sky, astronomers say said predicting auroras is incredibly difficult and no one knows exactly what kind of event we'll have from the solar blast.

Many may remember the powerful solar storm that brought northern lights to the region in May of 2024.
