LEXINGTON, S.C. (WIS) - A false alarm prompted a large police presence at a Midlands school on Friday.

The Lexington Police Department said officers responded to American Leadership Academy after an intruder alarm went off on campus. LPD later said the incident was determined to be a false alarm.

Both schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, but resumed normal activities at around 10:30 a.m. Police said the malfunction may have been linked to a previous fire alarm drill earlier in the morning.

“We realize that are multiple rumors circulating social media about this incident but please always look for true information on our page before sharing,” Lexington police said in a Facebook post.
