An Upper Peninsula lighthouse perched atop a bluff overlooking Lake Superior is among 14 beacons described as "must see" this week by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
"We 'shore' love our lighthouses," the Trust said in a release. "They span from coast to coast and often pop up in the unlikeliest of places — including the most northwesterly point of the lower 48 United States, the bustling metropolis of Boston, and even one of the Great Lakes."
The Trust highlighted 14 of its "favorite lighthouses in the U.S." in the National Lighthouse Day release on Aug. 7, including the Big Bay Point Light Station, north of Marquette.
The lighthouse keeper's quarters now are a bed and breakfast, and signs are posted restricting the grounds to guests, except in certain circumstanc
