PHOENIX – Four people were taken to a hospital after a fire at an assisted living home in west Phoenix on Thursday night, authorities said.

Crews responded to the scene near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 10 p.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The fast-moving fire apparently started in the front carport and extended into the home, where the residents require constant supervision and care.

Firefighters gained control of the fire and extinguished it.

Authorities said the assisted living home’s staff safely evacuated everyone into the backyard as the fire was spreading.
