The ergonomically disastrous wall design in the Dodger Stadium outfield is something I have written about in the past. A play in Wednesday’s day game was a stark reminder that this problem remains, and Dodgers outfielder Alex Call, who was shaken up on the play, was lucky not to have been seriously injured.
If you look at the wall pictured here, there is a pad that starts at the ankle and goes up to just below the knee. From what I can tell, the pad appears to be about four inches thick. There is a second pad at the top of the wall that juts out even further and forms a narrow roof. In between these absurdly placed pads is fencing, which is either itself hard or backed by something hard.
