Mookie Betts is finally coming out of his slump, and former teammate J.D. Martinez played a significant role in helping Betts out, writes Mike Rosenstein at New England Sports Network.
Martinez was in Tampa with Betts at the beginning of August to help out in the batting cage, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. It wasn’t a long trip for Martinez, who lives in Florida, and while it’s not clear what exactly he and Betts worked on, the impact is undeniable.
This isn’t the first time Martinez has mentored Betts. When he signed with the Red Sox in 2018, Martinez told The Athletic that he was “pretty much assigned” to be Betts’ training partner. Martinez’s influence was so well received that the Red Sox built their hitting program around some of his techniques. No wonder Betts has i
