RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Raleigh Police Department announced Thursday night that a man is facing charges from the fatal crash on Interstate 540 West in north Raleigh last week.

An officer told CBS 17 that 56-year-old Joseph Murrin III is charged with an unsafe lane change violation and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle as the driver of the Subaru Forester that collided with a Chevrolet S10, occupied by 22-year-old Antonio Aguirre Vargas.

CBS 17 previously reported that the Subaru was traveling in the right lane on I-540 West when it attempted to get into a left lane. However, the Chevrolet was in the left lane, swerved left, then overcorrected, resulting in the collision.

Both vehicles struck trees as the impact of the crash made them fly into the woods off the highway.
