ALBANY, N.Y. — A new bill introduced in the State Senate would protect some New York marijuana shops from having to relocate. S8469, proposed by Sen. Luis Sepúlveda, follows the Office of Cannabis Management admitting a mistake about where dispensaries can be located.
OCM determined that its past methods of measuring mandated distances away from schools were incorrect, with over a hundred licensed, operating cannabis businesses located too close. With their ability to renew their licenses now in danger, the bill is supposed to make sure those retailers don't get punished for having followed the state's original rules.
The bill would let any dispensary approved before July 28 keep its license and stay at its current spot, as long as the business was in good standing and followed the rules
