SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — An Aldi location in Swansea will be coming soon.

The town recently approved a building permit for the grocery store to go into a vacant building on 58 and 86 Swansea Mall Drive.

According to Jennifer Howard, an assistant to the town's building inspector, Aldi filed for a permit on June 25, which was issued July 30.

The property, owned by Gator Investments, used to be home to a Price Rite.

There are three other Aldi stores in Bristol County, Massachusetts — Fall River, Taunton and Dartmouth. Rhode Island has nine locations, with three in Providence.

Howard said that at this time, the cost of construction is a little over $2.2 million. The final figure is subject to change when bids come in, Howard explained.
