Elmer's Chocolate has been sold to Hoffman Family of Companies to expand its footprint and grow operations.

Rob Nelson, who owns a large stake in the company along with his brother, said Elmer's Chocolate plans to remain in Ponchatoula for another 170 years.

"Our purpose for our company is to foster and celebrate life's opportunities. And that really drills down to creating opportunities for people in our community and the people that have made us successful," Nelson said.

The acquisition will also help the company hire more people for the Northshore factory.
