WILLOUGHBY HILLS, Ohio — A Lake County court isn’t the only one in Northeast Ohio that has charged drivers a fee to contest traffic camera tickets.
On the heels of Willoughby Municipal Court’s decision last week to pause a a $25 fee that drivers were required to pay before they could challenge citations from Willoughby Hills, it bears noting that Stow Municipal Court recently found itself in a similar situation.
Two years ago, Stow’s court also scrapped the fees, after receiving similar criticism from a national civil liberties group that called the fees unconstitutional.
The Institute for Justice, a nonprofit law firm based in Arlington, Virginia, accused Stow’s court -- and now Willoughby’s -- of placing a price tag on due process.
