The federal government invited international students to come here, and then abandoned them.
It’s not an act worthy of our country. But it’s what we did.
The Liberal government told the students that they were welcome to study here, and work here, and promised a pathway to citizenship.
“Our message to international students and graduates is simple: we don’t just want you to study here, we want you to stay here,” reads a 2021 statement from former Immigration Minister Marco Mendocino, which is still on the government’s website.
What could be more clear?
Tens of thousands answered this call in Waterloo Region alone. They paid exorbitant tuition fees and made that epic immigrant journey, the one so many of us, or our parents and grandparents, are familiar with.
But then, Ottawa broke
