JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Officials have determined the cause of a home explosion that happened last week in southern Indiana.

The investigation, conducted by Jeffersonville Fire Department, confirmed that the explosion originated from a gas leak inside the house.

The department says it was able to "eliminate" any concern that there was a problem with an external gas line or neighborhood gas infrastructure.

The Jeffersonville Police Department and Jeffersonville Fire Department strongly urge the public:

"We want to thank the public for their patience and understanding throughout this investigation," Jeffersonville Fire said in a news release.

Five people remain in the hospital after they survived the home explosion on July 31. The home was destroyed in the explosion.
