Perrysburg Township voters will see two levies for police protection on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Voters will be asked to renew a 3-mill police levy and approve a new 4.9-mill levy to support police, according to the Wood County Board of Elections, which had a Wednesday deadline for the majority of issues and candidates for Nov. 4.

The trustees are pledging to drop an existing 2-mill police levy, in an effort to establish a five-year plan for the cash-strapped department.

“It seems like whenever I hear stuff about the police levy, they talk about a 4.9-mill new tax. It’s just an incrementally, slightly higher tax,” said Trustee Bob Mack. “We’re getting the 4.9, but we’re relinquishing the 2 mills.”

“We need to do a better job of conveying that message,” he said.
