Blue-green algae has closed Pier 4 Park beach , again.
The city says Hamilton Harbour’s only usable beach has yet again been shuttered after public health tests confirmed the presence of the toxic and potentially harmful cyanobacteria in the water around Pier 4.
It’s the fifth consecutive summer that blue-green algae has forced the tiny beach to close.
“The presence of blue-green algae at Hamilton-area public beaches serves as a strong indicator that blue-green algae can be present within the broader watershed,” the city said in a release Friday.
Until further notice, the city is advising residents to avoid all contact with water at the beach, including while walking along the nearby harbour shoreline.
