The Better Business Bureau reports young adults, ages 18-24, lose more money on average to scams than other age groups.

As students across the Tri-States get ready for college, the BBB is reminding them to keep their information safe.

Don O’Brien, the Quincy BBB regional director, said scammers love to target young adults who have just started school and are on their own for the first time.

“Young people are very popular for scammers to try to get their personal identifying information because they have really clean credit records,” O’Brien said.

He said students and adults should always keep their valuables in a safe place and should never hand their credit or debit card over to someone, even if they are a friend.
